Dora is in the Walker County district of Alabama. Dora was founded by Cole Smith in what used to the town of Horse Creek which was established February 18, 1897. The name was then changed to Dora in 1906. Dora used to be known for the coal mines that were very helpful to the surrounding areas and because of this Dora helped build part of America in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
